Temescal Wash Clean-Up Event

Corona, CA – The City of Corona organized the annual Temescal Wash Clean-Up Event on Saturday, October 26th. One hundred and fifteen (115) volunteers, mostly students from local middle and high schools, arrived in the early morning hours to participate in the clean-up. The event took place along a portion of the Temescal Wash located on Auburndale Road, just north of West Rincon Road. Over 6.82 tons of trash and debris were collected by the volunteers and City crews from the Public Works Department and the Department of Water and Power. The most common items retrieved were plastic bags, food wrappers and containers, used tires and tarps.

The Temescal Wash Clean-Up has become an annual event in Corona, and is one of many efforts sprouting up in communities all over southern California as part of California Coastal Clean-Up Day. California Coastal Clean-Up Day is an annual beach and innner-coastal cleanup consisting of volunteers that clean up areas throughout the state. Corona is located in the Santa Ana River Watershed; these clean-ups help protect our native wildlife and water supplies. With the volunteers’ help, Corona and everyone downstream benefits from the clean-up. Clean-up events such as these build a sense of environmental stewardship in our community. The City of Corona is committed to protecting our environmental resources by organizing clean-up efforts like the Temescal Wash Clean-Up and is proud to be an on-going participant in California Coastal Clean-Up Day.

The City of Corona would like to thank local sponsors for helping make this year’s event possible. Sponsors included Starbucks at McKinley and Griffin, Ravin’s Donuts (774 N. Main Street), Baker’s Dozen Donuts (325 S. Main Street), Marcello’s Pizza (691 S. Main Street), the South Corona Home Depot Store, Lowe’s of Corona, Waste Management of the Inland Empire, the City of Corona Department of Water and Power, and the City of Corona Department of Public Works.
