Corona's electric utility was established on April 2001 in response to state-wide rolling blackouts and electric price instability.
Corona's electric utility was established on April 4, 2001, by City Council Resolution No. 2001-25 in response to state-wide rolling blackouts and electric price instability. All new residents and developments are prospective customers of the City's electric utility. New residents and developments will only become customers of the new electric utility when it is cost effective to have an interconnection with Southern California Edison ("SCE") facilities.
The electric utility provides fully bundled electric service to City owned and operated facilities and eight areas within the City. It also provides energy delivery services to municipal and commercial customers within the City. The utility currently serves loads with about 25 MW of peak demand.

Preparedness: Are You Prepared for an Outage?
Safety is a very important factor during a power outage and it is important to plan ahead and be prepared. From food safety to surge protectors, get the knowledge and tips you will need to be ready for a power outage.
How to Plan
You will be notified ahead of time if there is routine maintenance scheduled for your neighborhood. Please contact us at (951) 736-2234 if you have a situation where an uninterrupted power supply is needed. Please use tips from the checklist below to help ensure that you are prepared and well equipped to stay safe during a power outage.
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed as much as possible to keep food from spoiling.
- Protect computers, televisions and other sensitive equipment by powering down and unplugging them.
- Learn how to manually open security gates and garage doors.
- Notify any security companies that monitor your home or business.
- If your business has no backup power supply, consider renting one.
- If you or anyone living in your home has a medical condition that requires electricity-powered life support equipment, be sure your back-up power system is in place or make other arrangements for health care during the time of the outage.
Preparing for an outage is important for keeping you and your family safe. Keeping some basic supplies in an accessible location is important so you will be able to get to them easily and quickly, even in the dark.
